Reassign/Edit Assignments

This article will cover the various ways you can reassign and edit assignments in the system and the effects of each way possible.

What is an Assignment in Workamajig?

An assignment in Workamajig is the cornerstone of the project schedule. While Tasks are very important by themselves, without an Assignment on the Task there is no one responsible for completing the task at hand.

There are 3 parts to each assignment.

1. Service

2. Assigned User

3. Allocated Hours

Reassign/Edit Assignments

Replace a person with a different person

  • This option changes the assigned User by replacing them with another User.
  • The assigned Service will be retained.
  • If the original User entered actual hours, then the system will do a "hand-off" of the remaining allocated hours. Which means it will complete the original assignment, changing the allocated hours to match their actual hours. And then create a new assignment on the task with the remaining allocated hours for their assignment.

Assign a person to a service

  • Generally this option simply adds a User to an assigned Service with no User yet.
  • If the assignment already has a user assigned, then the user is replaced with another user.
  • At which point, If the original User entered actual hours, then the system will do a "hand-off" of the remaining allocated hours. Which means it will complete the original assignment, changing the allocated hours to match their actual hours. And then create a new assignment on the task with the remaining allocated hours for their assignment.

Remove this person from their assignments

  • This will remove the user from the selected assignments.
  • No hand-off is performed. So any actual hours a prior assigned user entered will not deduct from the remaining allocated hours.

Replace one service with another

  • Regardless if a person is assigned or not, the assigned Service will change.

Remove assignments

  • Removes all assignments from the selected task(s).
