In order to help visualize and report on major project milestones, Workamajig has created Timeline Sections. After defining the segments, you are able to set a detail level task or summary task with a colored and named marker for use in many of your traffic and project related reporting. This allows you to quickly filter and visualize across a Gantt schedule view where major milestones are falling on the calendar.
Menu > Admin > System Setup > Global Lists > Timeline Segments
Add a Timeline Segment
- Click the to add a new section
- Select a color by click on the colorized box
- Enter a Segment Name
- Enter a Display Name: this will be used for labeling segments in Gantt chart views
Assign Section to Project Task
- From the Project schedule: select a task
- Under the Details: Plan area, Show Timeline>>select the appropriate Section from the dropdown list
NOTE: You can assign a Section at the detail task or summary task level. The timeline section settings will copy over from templates. This allows you to set the timeline segment and also allows your Project Managers to name the tasks in anyway without disturbing this connection.
Using the Timeline Sections
The display of timeline sections is available in most project-task related screens. Some will use only the segment name, others will allow the visual display of the timeline section in a Gantt view.
Project Listing Screen
You will need to setup a listing screen that will allow the proper display of the timeline segments. We recommend you keep the number of columns in the listing to 3 or 4. Once you have the listing created and saved, at the bottom of the search options, check Show Timeline.
The Traffic calendar allows you to view the sections, as well as, using them as a way to filter the information. Under Search Options:Timeline Segments, you are able to select which segments you want to filter your results by and also view using the Gannt view of the screen.
Much like the Traffic Calendar you can use the segment as a column, filter and for display. When you modify the listing, you are able to group by the Timeline section. If you want to see the Timeline, by checking Show Timeline, we recommend that you use only 2-3 columns in the report. You also have the option to view the sections using the Project color or the Timeline Section colors you have setup.
Menu>Reports>Other>select New Custom Report>Project:Project Task Data
In this report, you are able to use the Timeline sections to filter and group the report.
